Week 3 Of Classes

October 14, 2013

Hello Everyone!

I am so sorry that I did not post yesterday, but I was worn out and it sort of felt like I was run over by a truck. I was not actually run over by a truck in case you all were wondering, I just had my first Volleyball game yesterday. It was so much, even though unfortunately we did lose. However, that will not dishearten me because I love playing, plus we have only had two official practices together. It still was an awesome game, we were all blocking pretty well, myself included if you can believe it. I actually blocked a ball all on my own. I shall repeat that because I still have trouble believing it, so you must as well. I blocked the ball all on my own. :D I was so excited that I am sure that I looked the fool hopping around like a crazy person. Any who, I think the biggest thing that we need to work on is our serving consistency, but you all probably do not want to hear about that so I shall move on. Oh one more thing, my lovely friend Maggie took pictures of me playing and they are on facebook if you all want to check them out I am number 3.

Alright, on to the official stuff. Classes are going okay, I still wish they were smaller, but I am getting used to them. I really am enjoying my art history classes. My professor really focuses on how different artists quote each other in their works and it really is just quite fascinating. P-chem is making slightly more sense although if any of you know anything about symmetry and bonding, specifically point group theory and point groups please feel free to share your secrets. I am struggling a bit with all that. Hopefully, it will get easier with practice. I officially start labs this week and I am not going to lie, I am pretty nervous because I do not know what to expect or how different they will be from mine back home. At least, I get to wear a fancy-smancy lab coat, so that should make things better right? If I look professional maybe I will be less prone to make mistakes. What do you think? I am going to go with that theory because it makes me feel better. Another thing that makes me nervous about lab is they assign us partners, so I have no idea who this person is going to be. I do know his name, but I have no idea what he looks like. Apparently the first activity/experiment is to see how long it takes to find our lab partners. :P

Any way I did a weird thing on Thursday and I actually went out with people to a bar. I know, it is a shock. Originally, we were going to see a movie but it was sold, so everyone decided to get a drink instead. I went along and I decided to try this Reeses Pieces Mojita. It was quite interesting and you could not taste the alcohol too much, which was nice. Do not worry I only had one! Here is a picture of me and my drink. I wanted to have proof for Kayla to show her that I do not just stay in my room all the time.  We ended seeing the movie on Friday instead. It was called Filth and lets just say that I had to go home afterwards and watch a Tinkerbell movie to get the "Filth" out of my head. The movie was definitely not for me, but at least I tried new things right?

The last fun thing that I did this weekend was get ice cream with Sam, Maggie and Mallory. We found this awesome ice cream where the Sundaes were buy one get one half off so Maggie and I did that deal. She got a Banana Split and I got this Sofia Ava Hot Fudge Sundae. It was so big, but so delicious. It was literally the size of my head. I will put a picture below so you all can see that I am not exaggerating. Mallory was a very sweet girl and we talked about books and movies, it was wonderful. Any way that about wraps up my week. I hope it kept you entertained

Week 2 of Classes Complete!

October 6, 2013

Hey everyone!

Since, I am not traveling very much right now or doing lots of interesting things during the week I have decided to go to weekly updates and only do special bulletins when exciting things happen!

Any way so here is a run down of my week. Classes are getting a little more manageable because I am getting used to them a little bit more. Although, I must admit Physical Chemistry is still very challenging. I am trying to keep up with reading and I am reviewing my notes before class, but I still feel like I am not understanding it as I should be. I am hoping the Tutorial session on Monday will help clear up some of my confusion.

On a happier note, I started my history of art class and it is definitely my favorite class right now. For starters, it makes sense :P and secondly I find it all fascinating. We are covering Mannerism right now and it is the period right after the High Renaissance. We covered a bit of it in my art history class back home but this is more depth than what we did. I find it really interesting the different aspects of the art or artist that my professor chooses to focus on because it is not the same as North Central. I had not realized all the different perspectives one could focus on when it comes to art and I like that I am being exposed to a unique one while I am here. Professor Koenig at North Central, focuses a lot on the story that they piece is depicting which I always find fun and it makes the piece easy to remember. Professor Nichols here at Glasgow focuses on how the piece relates to what was happening when it was created and the reason why it was created. He also talks some of the story but not nearly as much as Professor Koenig.

On another note, I officially started volleyball practice this week. It was fun, although not all the girls know the defensive rotations yet, but I guess it will come in good time. We have our first game a week from today, so that is very exciting. We have a large number of players on our team so not everyone can go to the game so we will not know who is on the official team until the practice on Tuesday, so keep your fingers crossed for me. :D

Also I have noticed that I do not have any pictures of the classrooms that I have been using, so I will be sure to take some this week and post them so you all can get a sense of how many people and how large the classes are. Well, I should go finish reading P-chem stuff.
